Forum Title: Do your clients ever give you a bonus / Tipping the Contractor
This is the second time an HO INSISTED I take a bonus, 25% more than the contract price! The last time was about 10 years ago and the woman (again) insisted I allow her to do this and gave me a 40% bonus. Both times I said, You don't tip contractors, we charge you for what the job is worth, that's all you should pay. Both times, refusing was taking a LOT of time and in both cases they were hanging on to the money until I agreed to accept more. I took the money. Does that make me a louse?

I just took a 500 dollar tip because I used his leaf blower to clear off alot of branches and leaves off the roof and decks. Granted, that's 400 dollars more than any other tip and they are rare. Sometimes taking an extra 1/2 hr (and a clean work site benefited me) pays off. But wasn't expecting it. I take all tips. We work hard just like people in the service industry, and they get 10-20% even when they are mediocre. The people wouldn't be offering them if they didn't want to do it.
